GeoNetworks

The best of Full Fibre and 5G

Vision

GeoNetworks will be a Rural 5G Network Operator providing voice and data services in low density areas of the UK. We will operate as a Virtual MNO, outside of our 5G footprint, and provide UK Alternative Network Operators with both Fixed Wireless access, to extend their broadband footprints, and a Mobile service. We will also provide Private 5G Networks. Our network will be based on a Virtualized model, that delivers lower capex/opex and allows for dynamic scaling of the network.

Problem

Many rural communities across the UK have slow speed broadband service and poor mobile coverage. The Government has encouraged Alternative Network Operators to build Fibre in rural areas, and to date they have spent £24Bn doing so. However, uptake of their services is below 10% of homes passed, partly as it is a broadband product only and 72% of consumers buy a bundled Broadband and Mobile service. The Alt Nets skill set is building Fibre networks, not Mobile services.

Solution

Ofcom has recently allowed Operators, outside of the 4 Mobile Companies, to bid for “Shared Access Radio Spectrum”. Geonetworks will do this in “Low Density” areas (already allocated in Telford). We will partner with Regional Alternative Network Operators, who will provide the fibre backhaul, and this will allow them to sell Ultra-fast broadband and Mobile (5G & 4G) voice services to a larger base in their respective markets.
